Endocrine Clinic


 
  

The unit started as a clinic in 1985 & was accredited as a unit in 1993.
The unit is running by 3 consultants, It is a tertiary referal unit. It covers all endocrine aspects which includes : short stature, thyroid gland disorders, adrenal gland disorders, obesity, diabetes type 1 & 2, parathyroid gland disorders, rickets, puberty disorders, sexual precocity, diabetes insipidus, undescended testis, ambiguous genitalia, micropenis, hypospadias, hirsutism, pituitary and adrenal masses, endocrine disorders in thalassemia and endocrine disorders in cured leukemia. Osteoporosis secondary to medical disorders or drug or in osteogenesis imperfecta.
Age of patients seen are up to 18 years old.
The total number of patient seen per month is around 3 hundreds.

The main clinic for different endocrine aspects is on Monday. There are other 2 clinics, the 1st is for endocrine disorders in cured lukemia in a joint clinic with hematology leukemia clinic and the other is for endocrine disorders in thalassemia & sickle call anemia & it is in a joint clinic with the thalassemia hematology clinic.
The unit works as a team with nutrition specialits, social workers, radiologists and paediatric surgeons.
Beside the out patient clinics, there are inpatients with a bed capecity of 8 beds.
Facilities for investigations, diagnosis & treatment are available. The unit is a part of a paediatric department of different specialities. The department also accomodutes a hormone lab with high standard facilities which can do most of hormonal assays.
