The Main
Laboratory and its branches (Biochemistry, Histopathology,
Haematology, Hormone lab. And Microbiology) of Al Sabah Hospital
provide various types of test and examinations needed for all kinds
of patients in all age group. It receives 46000 samples monthly
with 132 technicians and lab consultants.
Samples for different types of tests
are received in the main lab. Reception and will be distributed to
each section according to the type of the sample. After the
analysis the results will be send back to the main lab. Reception
where the results will be despatched. Some special tests such as
Hepatitis, H I V are will be sent to Special lab with the sample
which is situated out side our hosptial.
MICROBIOLOGY:
Most
of the Culture tests plus Serology tests are done in this lab. e.g.
Urine Culture. There are 32 technicians and 3 lab. consutlants are
working in this lab. which receives an average of 8000 tests /per
month.

HAEMATOLOGY & BLOOD BANK
Tests concerned with blood cells are
done here. E.g. White Blood cells and Red blood cells, coagulation,
blood banking etc.20 Technicians and 5 lab. consultants are working
here, receiving 13,000/ tests in a month

BIOCHEMISTRY:
Tests concerned with Chemical contents are done here. E.g.
Glucose, lipid etc… An average of 64000 samples are received here
monthly.

Tests concerned with tissue analysis for cancer cells are
done here. With 10 technicians and 4 consultants.
HORMONE LAB:
This is concerned with the analysis of body hormones e.g. Thyroid
etc…13 technicians plus 2 lab consultant are working here .
